Workaround for Xbox controller with no battery compartment

Had a problem his weekend, when I didn’t have the rechargeable battery for my wireless xbox controller.

I didn’t have original battery-holding compartment either, but with the aid of some sellotape and a couple of 20p coins, I managed to get the remote working!

It’s nearly a week since the SAScon event hit Manchester and the cream of the digital world congregated to discuss the key trends in search, analytics and social media, yet still the twitter feed is full of talk and round-ups of the event. This one from FluidCreativity is one of the most impressive.

So I have no intention of re-capping all the wondrous presentations, I wanted to highlight the softer side of the event, that made it such fun.

For a start, when else would you see a presentation on the growth of the industry that highlighted the passion in gaming with Lesbian Spider Queens from Mars , then moved onto the rise of Location Based Marketing, and Goat spanking in France??

It’s this light hearted view (possibly due to it’s northern heritage) on such a momentous industry that provides SAScon with it’s edge.

But it wasn’t all work, work, work; there was the legendary series of Jäger trains that got longer and longer as the evening went on (whose idea was it to have the social event in between the two days??) and jeopardised the start of Day 2 with The Hive looking like ghost-town 10 minutes before the keynote was due to start.

And when the conference came to a close, did we let people simply file out the door, returning the feedback forms as they left? No chance. Gareth at Manual Link Building announced the winner of the iPad2, and Neil Walker Delivered the memorable SAScon (w)Rap up. Don’t believe me? Then watch it here!

Speaking event – Search with a digital heartbeat

Following last week’s SAScon event in Manchester, I’m back in town this Thursday for the DMA’s Marketing with a Digital Heartbeat event. I’m looking forward to presenting alongside the team from 2Ergo and Paul Kennedy from CallCredit and hope to give the crowd a view of how fast things are still moving in the world of search and social media.

A year on and SAScon hits Manchester again this week. But this year it’s bigger and better.

Building upon the success of last year’s inaugural one-day event, 2011 sees the conference span two days with more topics and more speakers, including two great Keynotes from King Yiu Chi (Layar) and Richard Dennys (Qype).

Aside from kicking things off you’ll find me moderating the Location Based Marketing and Gambling panels, and I’ll probably be at the bar Tuesday night too!

A friend has recently had a rather unpleasant experience with a warranty provider and is understandably going to use SEO as a way of “getting even” with the company in question.

Flora sponsoring Kinect Adventures

In January I wrote about Samsung sponsoring the Kinect Sports add-on pack.

Now it seems another big UK brand is experimenting with the family gaming experience.

Flora has created a competition to run in tandem with Kinect Adventures.

There is no additional gaming content just a few themes and pics that you need to download to enter a free prize draw.

Not the most inspiring of executions, but possibly just a test to see the effectiveness of the channel.
